Sgt Hugh Keir

Hugh joined the British Army in 2000 and served in the Parachute Regiment for 11 1/2 years, specialising as a sniper. He reached the rank of Sergeant.

In this episode Hugh talks about his experience with joining the British Army and going through basic training, before moving onto Pegasus Company (P-Coy) and the jumps course, to become a Paratrooper. He talks about deployments to Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, as well as being involved with the Invasion of Iraq.

Hugh also shares going on the elite Sniper Course, and being part of a Sniper Platoon. He discusses his 3 deployments to Afghanistan, where one deployment saw him be part of a battle in Musa Qaleh in 2006, which was later made into a documentary called Heroes of Helmand: The British Army’s Great Escape. Plus Hugh talks about his journey with tackling mental health issues, and how this has been partially helped by running his popular podcast H-Hour.
